Joe Ryan believes that we are wasting resources with way we approach the war on terrorism. Joe Ryan would vote for any bill that addresses terror related concerns in an intelligent way, but Joe Ryan would not vote blindly for any bill sold as part of the war on terror, that contained wasteful spending. For instance, Joe Ryan believes we need to concentrate on who is allowed to enter the United States rather than engage in an ultra expensive search of the world for elusive Al Queda members. The way we must conduct our terrorist-search operations (if they are to be successful), is a recipe for creating Al Queda members faster than we can eliminate the same. Government bloat at the Department of Homeland Security and at the TSA doesn't solve anything, and neither does a highly counterproductive, expensive, globetrotting, interventionist strategy that serves to ferment terrorism, without producing positive results.
Joe Ryan defies Duncan Hunter's opinion, and says let's get home. The best chance to stabilize Afghanistan and Pakistan is to stay out of the neighborhood, so the militants can be isolated politically, and marginalized over time.
Joe Ryan does not believe Duncan Hunter approach to fighting terror is affordable. The problem is, Duncan Hunter lacks perspective, and he seems to vote for whatever strikes his fancy or that he feels we gotta have (like a kid looking for goodies), but he doesn't seem to recognize that everything costs money. He claims to be against deficits, but he's for a war we cannot afford. That's not consistent, and a policy based upon throwing money haphazardly in the direction of the 'war on terror' is not a smart way to defeat the terrorist, nor is it economically sustainable. |

Nothing illustrates the stark difference between Joe Ryan, the Independent candidate for congress and Duncan Hunter jr., the sitting representative in congress for the 52nd District, than they're approach to fighting terror. Duncan Hunter is convinced that we should fight a huge full-out war in Afghanistan. He latched on to the GOP's 'surge' lexicon, and he has stated over and over that we need to do a troop surge in Afghanistan.
I guess you can't blame Hunter jr for being ignorant about the history of Afghanistan, since he was just a kid in kindergarten when the Russians tried to win a there. Those who don't pay attention to history are deemed to repeat their mistakes. Duncan Hunter must not know about the history of Afghanistan and what happens to armies that try and conquer that land. Joe Ryan doesn't understand the hubris behind the idea that we will be the first to conquer Afghanistan. The 'dead end' signs are flashing in neon, but Duncan Hunter is too young too recognize them.
Duncan Hunter has a personality type that does not lend itself to admitting fault. Over time (it's January of 2010 as this is written) it will become apparent to everyone that the Afghanistan war is a waste of our money and our troops lives; but I don't see Duncan Hunter ever admitting that we are not going to conquer Afghanistan, because then he would have to admit he's been horribly wrong about a 'surge' working in Afghanistan, and that he doesn't have a good grasp on historical matters. Therefore, leaving Duncan Hunter in office will result in there being one more congressman available to vote to prolong the war or its funding. |
The Candidate's Education |
Joe Ryan is not an attorney, but he did earn a Law Degree from an ABA Approved Law School.
The vast majority of the members of congress also have law degrees. While membership in congress is not reserved for attorneys (Hallelujah); having a law degree is certainly a valuable asset for any person that will represent the electorate in floor debates, and in meetings where matters of law might be discussed, and where staff might not be available to provide legal guidance or an opinion regarding a proposed law's constitutionality Right now, most bills are being written by crafty Think Tank staff members, not congressional staff members. Sending someone to congress who doesn't possess a law degree can't help. Joe Ryan pursued his law degree for business purposes and never sat for the bar exam, but he proved recently - by whipping Bonnie Dumanis in a jury trial - that he can effectively utilize his education, to battle corruption or partisan harassment, when necessary. |
Duncan D, Hunter has No Law Degree and no Significant legal Education
Duncan Hunter jr does not have the respect of the attorneys who comprise congress, and he never will. They understand that he's wet behind the ears when it comes to understanding the law or the constitution, and they will always treat him accordingly. Whether you like attorneys or hate them, there are certain jobs that require the use of a law education, and being a member of congress is one of those jobs. Duncan Hunter says he has a business degree from SDSU. That's nice, but there's no evidence he's ever spent one moment engaged in business activities (despite his constantly morphing resume). It's admirable he did a couple tours in the military since he graduated from SDSU, but that's all he's seemingly done in his whole life. That's it. His qualifications for sitting in congress involve loading artillery shells. Again, that's great he fought, but that's not going to cut it. A fake resume is a fake resume. I assume he wouldn't make up his SDSU degree, and I'm sure he served in the military, but beyond that, his past is as mysterious as can be. |

Joe Ryan Refuses to accept Money from anyone
What if every voter demanded that candidates for office accept no money from any Individual or organization as a prerequisite to receiving their vote. Politics in America would change overnight! Instead of listening to a bunch of baloney answers to various political questions, why not first say; Do you accept money to run for office? If the answer is yes, tell them you don't need to talk to them about other issues. What would be the point? Nothing they say could be trusted once they're being paid off by who knows who. Joe Ryan is not excepting any monetary contributions and vows to never take any money in order to run for office. If elected Joe Ryan will never accept any free gifts, meals, boat rides on The Dukester or anything else, ever! Joe Ryan would never leverage a congressional seat in order to provide himself with any post-service, financial windfalls. Candidates coming from either major party have virtually no chance of escaping the money chase. Duncan D. Hunter is raising and spending money non-stop
Duncan Hunter JR is already acting like an old Washington veteran; as he sends out expensive mailer after mailer asking for money; and holding 'fundraiser's' (referred to as bribery parties by some) to gather more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. The consultants, advisors, pollsters and job-seeking 'staff' all have to be paid. Then there's the hoard of expensive signs, bumper stickers and the multi-page glossy mailers that he'll flood the district with. There's staff vehicles and meals. Then he has to come up with money for professional photographers and caterers; office space with office furniture, a network room, alarms, file cabinets, and a zillion other items. Then he has to stay on the phone all day most days stroking contributors egos and asking for even more money. Duncan has obviously gotten himself hooked up with the right people in the Republican party who know how to run a big money, modern style expensive campaigns. The money-train has pulled from the station and the locomotive has no brakes. Voters must 'Just Say No' to this type of campaign. After his Dad served the 52nd district for 30 years, didn't the Hunter family have enough name recognition for Duncan jr. to run without raising huge amounts of money? The media plays into the farce that the measure of a candidates worth is how much money they can raise. Only the public can stop the baloney and demand that the race be about ideas, and not about money. |

Without diminishing the amazing, courageous work done by those on the frontlines of the fire fighting efforts; it can be safely said that The Federal and State Government's preparation and response to the Firestorm disaster of 2007 left a lot to be desired.
The residents of the 52nd district were - at the minimum - inconvenienced and numerous lives were effectively ruined and some lost because the military's C-130's and North Island Helicopters did not aid in fighting the fires until the 4th day and 5th of the disaster. Meanwhile, Duncan Hunter sr assured us that he had been on the ball and that he had made calls ahead of time to assure that - if I big fire broke out in Southern California - the planes would be ready to fly immediately. I don't doubt Duncan Hunter's honesty on this issue. If he says he made the arrangements, then I'll take him at his word. However, we - the residents of the 52nd District - deserve to know who ignored Hunter's requests or lied to him about their readiness to join the fight. There's no secrecy rules that should bar him from telling us who he spoke to about the C-130's availability. The state government says there were no spotters available; yet spotters say they were available and they were not utilized. It's not acceptable to hear 'the spotters' weren't available' excuse 4 years after the Cedar Fires. Government owes us better coordination and planning. |

Joe Ryan knows that the globalist are going to gradually phase as many foreigners as possible into the US military (and all military's of all other sovereign states); because they know that a military unit made up of troops from many nations will readily suppress citizens from any particular nation. The troops are being taught to develop an 'us vs. them' mentality. After years as the ranking member on the House Armed Services Committee, Duncan Hunter was not able to ensure the US troops would have proper armor before he voted to go to war in 2003. Where does the buck stop? Perhaps if he hadn't hooked-up one of his big campaign contributors with $63 million in our cash for a worthless plane (the military told Hunter they did not want); we could have bought some more armor for the humvees sooner. The 'plane to nowhere' got funded but the humvees didn't have proper armor. Excuses, excuses, excuses; where does the buck stop? Everybody says the problems at Walter Reed and Elsewhere were unknown; however the same problems have reoccurred and been reported on decade after decade - throughout my life - without fail. The globalist feel they own the whole world and everything within it; so they systematically use environmental issues, and expansion of domestic military force-bases, as a convenient excuse to seize huge tracts of land for 'preservation', 'training purposes'. Later these tracts of land can and will be transferred into private hands by the beltway looters. Bankrupting cities, states, and countries; and then forcing those entities to sell off public land to satisfy their 'debts' is the plan.
